The famous Test project
How to create an appealing project overview

Sandb WYSIWYG.png

F red is one of your friendly colleagues in the really important and trend-setting "Test project". In our first sandbox, we added a task for him to our wiki and made its information available for his task list and at the same time for Mikes project management overview (see the first sandbox of the sandbox tour). Now we will have the possibility to create an own overview of the Test project.

Since this is a sandbox and the WYSIWYG editor is very easy to use, we don't want to give you explicit guidelines what to do here. Instead, we concentrate on some helpful inspiration what you actually COULD do. You will see that options are widespread when using the WYSIWYG editor.

The sandbox is splitted into three sections:

  1. Basic features of WYSIWYG and hints what you could do
  2. The clean Test project overview (here you can especially pick up some content elements for composing the article)
  3. The orignal playground. Here you can put and change content and create a new overview. Naturally, you could also create a new page and try the editor there.

And now: enjoy.

[edit] WYSIWYG hints

  1. The WYSIWYG editor will provide you with this toolbar once you have clicked on "edit":
    WYSIWYG toolbar.png
You will find typical Microsoft Word buttons here, but also some SMW+ specific ones. We don't have to explain the buttons in detail at this point, because you will find tool tips before clicking on them with your mouse. Additionally, you will learn what they do if you simply try them out. However, a detailed overview can be found in the corresponding WYSIWYG help article.
  2. We propose that you start with typical layout functions such as headings, text size or fonts and other formatting stuff (enumerations etc.). You can also copy and paste stuff you already have on your machine, e.g. Excel spreadsheets or (parts) of other documents. Then you could add some images and arrange them with tables (if you would like to use your own images, please upload them via the upload button first).
For more inspiration, we also have a ready example of the Test project overview.
  3. Note that you can resize the visible edit area via mouse-click on the resize-button while dragging the mouse.

[edit] Test project content elements

And here come the exemplary content elements you can use.

[edit] Some informative text

The famous test project is a first class project. Many nice people are part of it, for example Fred, Mike and Sarah. They work together on a highly realistic flight simulator that will not only give insight into the daily lives of pilots, but also is real fun. It even offers to try out different types of aircraft. Daring maneuvers are possible with it as well as cozy and normal scheduled flights.

Of course, the project could also deal with totally different things. SMW+ is not only a good choice for managing tasks. It is an extremely flexible software that enables knowledge management for any domain you can think of. But now we don't want to distract you from the actual WYSIWYG editor any futher. Consequently, the next few lines only contain the classic "Lorem Ipsum" dummy text. Have fun with the SMW+ sandbox tour!

Copy this as wikisource into your article (see the Update screenshots example).

[edit] Test project overview playground

Well, this area is empty, yet. Feel free to add content here and create an own project overview.

[edit] Everything went fine?

Great. We also prepared a ready example of the Test project overview here. You can also try out the WYSIWYG editor and learn about the tabular forms there. This is a very handy tool to add and change data directly in the table without using the annotation mode!

Tried out enough? Then it's time to go to the next sandbox: explore and manage SMW+ semantic dimension with the Ontology Browser!
